DAY 1
We arrive in Swindon where our hotel is conveniently situated a short walk from the railway station. Tonight, we enjoy our first evening meal together.
DDAY 2
This morning we explore Gloucester's waterways as we head to the most inland port in the country, Gloucester Docks, where we will find the National Waterways Museum which tells the story of 200 years of the docks and the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. Whilst here, we board our boat tour discovering the stories of the communities that lived and continue to thrive here. This afternoon is free to explore Gloucester independently.
B, DDAY 3
Today is all about the rails as we visit two of the South West's best loved railway museums, both housed in former railway buildings. This morning, a short walk brings us to STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway. Here we will walk amongst legendary locomotives while glimpsing rare artefacts and interactive exhibits. This afternoon, a short train journey takes us to Didcot Railway Centre, home of the Great Western Society and its ever-growing collection of items relating to the GWR.
B, DDAY 4
After breakfast we transfer by coach to the award-winning Hook Norton Brewery for a tour and tasting. The brewery is the finest example of a Victorian Tower Brewery in the country and sticks very much to traditional methods of brewing from using an original steam engine to using Shire Horses to deliver the beer to the local pubs. Following our visit we enjoy free time in the quintessential Cotswold village of Broadway. In the afternoon we steam through the Cotswolds on scenic and recently extended Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, beginning our journey at Broadway and travelling to Cheltenham Racecourse.
B, DDAY 5
We bid farewell to Swindon and make our way home.
